Guild Hall, in East Hampton, has announced the appointment of award-winning director and choreographer Susan Stroman as the new President of the Guild Hall Academy of the Arts. This transition comes as current president and acclaimed artist Eric Fischl steps down after a significant tenure marked by substantial contributions to the organization.
The Guild Hall Academy of the Arts was established in 1986, and recognizes the rich artistic community in the Hamptons. The program honored notable figures such as Kurt Vonnegut, Willem de Kooning, and Alan Alda, celebrating the area's vibrant cultural landscape. The Academy was founded by a distinguished group of artists and arts professionals, including Roy Lichtenstein and Frank Perry, who sought to create a collective of talented individuals associated with Guild Hall.
Members play a pivotal role in nurturing the local arts community, mentoring emerging artists and supporting the programs that perpetuate the Hamptons' legacy as one of the nation's most esteemed art colonies.
In her acceptance of the presidency, Stroman expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "I am deeply honored to accept the role of President of the Academy of the Arts at Guild Hall. As a director and choreographer, I have long championed the arts, and I am thrilled to continue this legacy by leading Guild Hall’s prestigious Academy. I look forward to collaborating with fellow artists, fostering creativity, and advancing the mission of this cherished cultural institution."
As Stroman steps into her new role, she is poised to guide the Academy towards new heights, reinforcing Guild Hall's commitment to celebrating and nurturing artistic talent in the region.
