Five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman returns to her alma mater, the University of Delaware, to launch an innovative new initiative supporting the next generation of theatrical storytellers. The Susan Stroman Playwright Fellows program, a partnership between UD English and UD Theatre departments, welcomes its inaugural cohort of four exceptional student playwrights: Natalie Milligan, Percy Allen III, Zack Cable, and Erin Munoz.
Selected from a competitive pool of applicants, the Fellows will embark on an intensive year-long creative journey that includes specialized theatre and English classes, mentorship from professional playwrights, collaborative writing workshops, behind-the-scenes theatre experiences in New York, and the development of original full-length plays to be presented in public readings with working actors.
"When I was a student at UD, this kind of opportunity would have meant everything to me," says Stroman, who graduated from UD's English department before launching her acclaimed Broadway career. Through her generous support, the program aims to establish the University of Delaware as a creative hub for emerging playwrights while addressing theatre's pressing need for fresh, diverse voices.
