Five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman is set to direct an industry presentation of the in-development musical Angel of Arkansas. The musical, with a book, music, and lyrics by Richard Oberacker and a book and lyrics by Robert Taylor, will have a presentation on February 23 at the Perelman Performing Arts Center.
Angel of Arkansas tells the inspiring story of a real-life single mother who became an advocate, activist, and caregiver to AIDS patients in conservative Arkansas during the 1980s. Accompanied by an original country-pop score, the musical aims to shed light on a significant chapter in history.
Leading the company is Kerry Butler, who will star in the production. The cast also includes Andy Mientus, Mauricio Martínez, Josh Strickland, Dudney Elson Joseph Jr, Nic Rouleau, James Harkness, Sam Simahk, Jacob Keith Watson, Shavey Brown, Joel Waggoner, Bud Weber, Nicholas Rodriguez, and John Michaelangelo Kraus.
