“Flora the Red Menace, the 1965 John Kander-Fred Ebb musical, whose brief stay on Broadway is remembered mainly for the presence of Liza Minnelli, opened last week at the Vineyard Theater, with a few new Kander-Ebb songs and a new book by David Thompson.
Dirk Lumbard and Maggy Gorrill do the dancing, especially ‘Keepin' It Hot,’ with pizazz. Along with the musical numbers that make the evening hum (David Pogue providing a vigorous piano accompaniment), comes a fair amount of humor - Harry's comrades assuming heroic poses for a post office mural, Charlotte singing while being dragged across the stage, Flora applying for a job in an extremely tight dress.”
