“Five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman’s Take Five...More or Less is an ensemble work that brings a bit of theatricality, including soft shoe tap dance, to PNB’s repertoire. Stroman’s Broadway background merges with balletic movement in this PNB-commissioned work set to the celebrated jazz scores of Paul Desmond’s ‘Take Five’ and Dave Brubeck’s ‘Blue Rondo à la Turk’ and ‘Strange Meadow Lark.’ Moira Macdonald of The Seattle Times comments that ‘shades of Broadway flavored this dance, [such as] Lesley Rausch’s shimmying little march on pointe.’ Of the work’s premiere in 2008, Macdonald wrote that ‘Take Five bubbled with gentle wit.’”
